Stretching the Boundary

In January of 2011, Darin Slack told me, “You have to check out this tilted four verticals that Dub (Maddox) is working on.” I visited Dub later that spring and wholesale adopted this concept. It’s a great way to attack the boundary, and it’s a concept that can be implemented in any offense.

Here is an article on X&O Labs on the concept.

I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting this article to be published in X&O Labs since I had made my transition to AFM prior to its release. However, it is a very detailed article on the concept. Again, all credit goes to Dub in its development. Check out R4: From Headset to Helmet. It is a must read for offensive coaches. Whether you choose to implement R4 or not, you will come away with a deeper understanding of the passing game.
